Tips for Playing Quordle

Choose a good cordal starting word

A good introductory word can make all the difference in a game of Quordle. But what makes a good start sound?

  • Notice for vowels. If you find a vowel in a word, it can often make it easier to combine the rest of it. Choose an introductory word with lots of vowels. The audio has four of the five vowels – a great sound to start a chordle!
  • Some characters are used more than others. Choose a word with simple letters. The most common consonants are N, R, S and T. A word like stern combines all these letters with the most common vowel (e).

Follow with a word that does not overlap

Don’t try to solve anything directly. Use your second Quordle guess to try to unravel more characters. Guess another five-letter word that uses a completely different character from your first. According to our example above, if you guess the audio in your first turn, use it harshly in your next turn. You have now covered all the vowels and most popular consonants in just two guesses.

First go to the word with the little familiar letters

Start with a grid with the least number of characters. Our thinking behind this is that you are more likely to unveil a new character like this and that character can be helpful in one of the other words. If there is a particularly stubborn word that can be multiple answers, leave it for a while. Filling out letters elsewhere may reveal the help you need.

Keep an eye on how many Quordle turns you have left

The nine guesses sound like many, but they quickly get used to it. Remember, you must pass at least four to complete each correct answer, so technically you have only five guesses out of four words. Keep an eye on how many turns you have left and don’t waste them guessing a strategic word.

Search for 5-letter words

We can’t always think of the right words, so if you get stuck, try to start or end with 5-letter words based on what you’ve figured out. As far as possible. It can help you think of possible ideas and then it will help you to be better for the next puzzle!

Practice!

Unlike Wordle, Quordle has an unlimited practice mode. You only have one shot in the daily game, but go to Quordle practice and you can play as many games as you like. Keep playing, and you’ll soon be creating your own strategies – as well as finding your own set of handy tips that you can use every time you play Quordle. But remember: the most important thing is to have fun only.
