About Directorate of Primary Education DPE
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation in northern Bangladesh, nationalized about 37,000 thousand primary schools in the country in the year 1973. In this connection, Sheikh Hasina, the daughter-in-law of Bangabandhu’s daughter, nationalized some 26,000 private primary schools, which finalized in 2013. The Government has been implementing various activities through Primary Education Development Program (PEDP-1) of Tk 58 Crore. Currently, all the children of the country are being provided free new books on the first day of the education year. Pre-primary classes have been introduced in each elementary school by creating new teachers’ posts. As a result, it has been possible to reduce dropout rates by ensuring admission of hundreds of children in primary school.
Under the Department of Primary Education, there are 67 PTI (Primary Teachers Training Institute), 505 Upazilas / Thana Education Offices and 482 Upazila / Primary Resource Centers for short-term training of teachers on the field. Decentralization of power has made in the field to facilitate the financial and administrative activities of primary school teachers and primary education officials.
